Pure tantalum - pure metal for top performance
Like tungsten, tantalum is a refractory metal with a high melting point, but is characterized by outstanding cold ductility and excellent corrosion resistance. Compared to tungsten, tantalum is easier to form and process at lower temperatures.
Pure tantalum has the following properties:
- Superconductivity (transition temperature: <4.5 K)
- High melting point: 2996°C (3269 K)
- Low vapor pressure: 5 x 10-⁸ Pa at 1800°C
- High density: 16.6 g/cm³
- Excellent machinability: Easy to process mechanically
- Excellent corrosion resistance: Especially against molten metals and aqueous solutions
- Superconductivity: transition temperature below 4.5 K
Tantalum-tungsten [TaW]
Tantalum-tungsten is an alloy that combines the outstanding properties of both metals, making it an ideal solution for particularly demanding applications. Tantalum provides excellent corrosion resistance and high formability, while tungsten impresses with its extreme hardness and heat resistance. This unique combination of materials therefore offers decisive advantages when it comes to high temperature resistance, stability and durability.
Tantalum and its alloys are used in a wide range of industries and technologies due to their outstanding properties. These include the chemical industry (reactors, heat exchangers and pipelines), high-temperature applications (furnace components, furnace boats, crucibles and sheets for the manufacture of PCD tools), medical technology (implants and tubes), the electronics industry (capacitors) and superconductor technology
