TZM and HCM molybdenum alloys for high-temperature applications
TZM and HCM are special heat-resistant molybdenum alloys consisting of over 98 % molybdenum, supplemented by small amounts of titanium, zirconium, hafnium and carbon. These alloying elements (Ti, Zr, Hf and C) not only ensure solid solution hardening, but also dispersion hardening. This creates finely dispersed oxide and carbide particles that prevent undesirable grain growth at high temperatures – a phenomenon that often occurs with pure molybdenum. Thanks to these properties, TZM and HCM are particularly suitable for use under extreme thermal conditions.
