Zircon (zirconium)

[Zr - low neutron capture, corrosion resistant]
Zircon (zirconium) is a gray-white, corrosion-resistant refractory metal with a high melting point and reliable strength at high temperatures. It is used in the chemical industry, in high-temperature furnaces, in the aerospace industry and - thanks to its low neutron absorption - in reactor construction. In alloyed form, it retains its good machinability and is highly resistant to aggressive media. Our product range covers semi-finished and finished parts according to drawings; details can be found below.

Grades & data sheets

Variety Composition Available as data sheet
Zirconium (Zr, pure) Zr ≥ 99.2-99.95 % (depending on semi-finished product/grade) Wires, rods/bars, sheets/plates/strips, tubes; finished parts according to drawing On request
Zr 702 / 704 / 705 Unalloyed (R60702) / Zr-Sn (R60704) / Zr-Nb (R60705) Wires, rods, sheets/plates/strips, tubes; finished parts according to drawing On request
The key features are as follows: Zr with low neutron absorption; corrosion-resistant

Supply programme

Wires, rods, bars, sheets/plates/strips, tubes and finished parts according to customer drawings

Properties

- High melting point (~1,855 °C) - Very high corrosion resistance - Low neutron absorption → suitable for nuclear applications - Good strength at high temperatures

Applications

- Apparatus/plant engineering in the chemical industry (e.g. heat exchangers, pipes) - High-temperature furnaces and heat-resistant components - Aerospace components - Reactor/nuclear technology (low neutron absorption)
