Tantalum is a refractory metal with a high melting point and is also exceptionally cold ductile and corrosion-resistant. Compared to tungsten, it is easier to form and machine even at lower temperatures. Tantalum-tungsten (TaW) combines the malleability and corrosion resistance of tantalum with the hardness and heat resistance of tungsten - ideal for applications with high temperature and media loads. Typical fields of application range from equipment in the chemical industry (reactors, heat exchangers, pipes) to high-temperature components (furnace boats, crucibles, sheet metal, PCD tool manufacture) and medical technology (implants, tubes), electronics (capacitors) and superconductor technology.
