W-Heavy metals

[WNiFe, WNiCu, WNiFeMo]
Tungsten heavy metals are high-density materials based on tungsten that are characterized by very high strength and good toughness. Additives such as nickel, iron, copper and molybdenum create alloys with specific properties - such as magnetic (NiFe) or non-magnetic (NiCu). They are used wherever compact dimensions, reliable shielding and high mechanical strength are required. At MOLYTUN, these materials are known as DensM® (NiFe-bonded) and DensM® P (NiCu-bonded). Detailed information on composition, nominal density and mechanical properties can be found in the grade overview and in the data sheets.

Tungsten heavy metals are high-performance materials based on tungsten that impress with their extreme density and outstanding mechanical properties. The combination of tungsten with additional elements such as nickel, iron, copper and molybdenum produces materials that are ideal for a wide range of industrial and military applications. MOLYTUN GmbH offers these tungsten heavy metals under the brand names DensM® and DensM® P, which are tailored to specific requirements. For detailed information on the material properties, available dimensions and tolerances, please refer to the following table or the corresponding material data sheets.
The key features are as follows: High density (17.0-18.8 g/cm³), magnetic (NiFe) / non-magnetic (NiCu), ASTM B777

Density: 18.0 g/cm³

Thermal conductivity: 90 W/m·K

Electrical conductivity: ≈ 6-10 ×10^6 S/m (10-17 %IACS); NiCu non-magnetic S/m

Supply programme

Bars and rods (in stock), panels and finished parts according to customer drawings.

Properties

- Very high density (typically 17.0-18.8 g/cm³) with a compact design - High tensile strength (≈ 650-1000 N/mm²) and good elongation at break (≈ 1-25 %) - NiFe binder: slightly magnetic; NiCu binder: non-magnetic - Very good radiation shielding (X/gamma), good vibration and shock absorption - Good machinability compared to pure tungsten

Applications

- Balancing and inertia masses, precision weights - Radiation protection modules/inserts (medical, industrial) - Components with non-magnetic environment (NiCu variants) - Clamping/molding elements and highly stressed precision components - Aerospace, mechanical/equipment engineering (compact masses, damping)
